New Orleans, LA >> Some ten years ago, the leadership of 600-member Lakeview Christian Center began attending Sovereign Grace conferences. When Hurricane Katrina hit, the former Assembles of God church was in the final stages of being adopted into the Sovereign Grace family....
Rotating teams of 15-20 men from Sovereign Grace churches are now helping the members of Lakeview Christian Center clean up and rebuild. Chip Chew, administrator and business manager at Metro Life Church in Orlando, Florida, is coordinating these teams on behalf of Sovereign Grace.
The first team went in on September 19, made up of sixteen men from Metro Life Church, Sovereign Grace Church of Titusville, Florida, and Sovereign Grace Church of Gilbert, Arizona. The following week, eleven men from the Gilbert church traveled to Lakeview. Men from Gilbert and from a Sovereign Grace church in El Paso went during the first week of October. These teams served Lakeview in practical ways such as tearing out wet carpet and padding, removing cabinets and fixtures, cutting up fallen trees, pulling damaged furniture and other articles out of the house, and more.
